Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka shared a hilarious comment for his latest purchase at the IPL mini auction, Josh Inglis, while underlining his love for his favourite football club from Bengal, Mohun Bagan.

Inglis was recently spotted playing tricks with a red Kookaburra ball during his Ashes stint, a moment captured by TNT Sports and shared on their social media handle. Sanjiv Goenka was gleeful enough to repost the video of Inglis juggling the ball on his timeline, writing, “Maybe Josh Inglis should try the green and maroon too… #LSG X #MBSG”.

Why did Goenka told Inglis to try green and maroon?

Green and maroon are the signature jersey colours of Mohun Bagan Super Giant, which is owned by the RP–Sanjiv Goenka Group. The 136-year-old football club, a 17-time Durand Cup winner, is one of the most celebrated clubs across India, particularly in West Bengal.

Goenka and Mohun Bagan’s connection goes way back. After entering the football landscape, Goenka acquired Atlético de Kolkata in 2014 and later owned 80% of the stake in Mohun Bagan in 2020. From the 2023–24 ISL season, the club has been named Mohun Bagan Super Giant, reflecting Goenka’s intent to place all his sporting ventures under one umbrella.

Inglis' availability still in muddy waters?

Nevertheless, the witty and somewhat childish jibe aimed at Inglis was made to underline an impossible collaboration between Lucknow Super Giants and Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

Inglis was roped in for ₹8.6 crore by LSG at the mini auction after Punjab Kings decided to part ways with him due to his low availability.

As the waters turned muddy a few days back, given Inglis’ instability regarding his availability, LSG, for now, are mulling over making him a strong player in their squad, whether he ever dons Mohun Bagan Super Giant colours or not, as hinted by Sanjiv Goenka.
