In a big development regarding the replacement of players for the remainder of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans have signed Sri Lankan batter, Kusal Mendis as replacement of Jos Buttler. The Englishman will leave for national duties on May 26. Punjab Kings, on the other hand, have announced Kyle Jamieson as replacement of injured Lockie Ferguson and William O' Rourke comes in for injured Mayank Yadav in the LSG squad.
GT have bought Kusal Mendis' services at 75 Lakhs and the replacement will be effective from May 26 after Buttler leaves the franchise. This will be the first stint for Kusal Mendis in IPL and he is likely to take the important number 3 position for GT if they qualify for the playoffs.
Kyle Jamieson Returns To IPL In Place Of Injured Lockie Ferguson
The tall Kiwi pacer, Kyle Jamieson is also back in IPL after his previous stint in the league in 2021. He has played nine matches for RCB and would add more depth to the PBKS bowling attack which boasts of the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Xavier Bartlett, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal. He has been bought at INR 2 Crore.
William O'Rourke has also got his maiden IPL call-up in place of Mayank Yadav, who has injured himself again after playing just two matches for LSG this season. William O'Rourke brings similar raw pace to the table, and has been pretty successful for New Zealand in recent times.
All the three players are not eligible for retention next year according to the temporary replacement rules for IPL 2025. William O'Rourke and Kyle Jamieson will join their respective franchises immediately, while, Kusal Mendis will be part of the GT setup after Jos Buttler leaves India.
