The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League was suspended on May 9 due to tensions between India and Pakistan. The season is now set to resume on May 17, and it will kickstart with the game against RCB and KKR. Currently, seven teams are in the race for the playoffs, and it promises to be an exciting final phase of IPL 2025.

In this season, many new players have stepped up for their respective franchises, but some old stars have failed to deliver to their billing. Thus, here are the three expensive players who might get released if they do not perform after IPL resumption.

1. Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history when LSG bought him for 27 Crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. A lot was expected from him both as a batter and a leader, but he struggled big time. He did not look in rhythm with the bat right throughout the season, and the fifty he scored against CSK was also on the slower side. Thus, Pant as a batter has been very poor it has hurt LSG's chances of making it to the playoffs.

As a leader too, Pant has taken some questionable decisions in crunch situations which cost LSG this season. He was also seen losing temper on minor issues, and all these has put his credentials as a good leader in doubt. Thus, if he does not make his bat talk after IPL resumption, LSG management might release him and free up truckloads of money they invested on Pant. They might buy him back for a lower price, as his stocks have surely gone down after poor performance this season.

2. Liam Livingstone

Liam Livingstone is one of the fearsome T20 batters in the world, and can take the game away from the opposition when he is in his zone. It is the reason why RCB decided to give him 8.75 Crore in the IPL 2025 auction despite his poor returns in IPL in past seasons. The batter though has disappointed once again in IPL and failed to make contributions when RCB needed him this season.

As a result, RCB decided to drop him from the playing XI in the middle of the season, and is now in danger of getting released after this edition. He could get a chance to prove his worth after the resumption though, because of the issue of unavailability of players. However, if he fails again, then it could be the end of road for Livingstone in RCB colours.

3. Shimron Hetmyer

Shimron Hetmyer was retained for 11 Crore to perform the finishing role for RR in IPL 2025. However, the batter let down his team multiple times and RR made a mess of some easy chases where Shimron Hetmyer was present at the crease during the last few overs. Thus, it has put his IPL future with RR in doubt, and the Caribbean star would have to prove his worth in the last two matches.

If he fails to deliver again, RR might think of releasing him and use that 11 Crore for a new powerful finisher in the next auction.
