Sri Lanka extended its overnight score of 290-2 to 458 all out from 116.5 overs on Day 3, mounting an overall first innings lead of 211 runs against Bangladesh in the second Test at Colombo. Kusal Mendis belted a speedy 84 from 87 balls after Pathum Nissanka was dismissed at 158 by Taijul Islam. The Bangladeshi spinner completed his five-wicket haul, finishing the high-scoring innings with industrious figures of 5-131.

Up against a deficit of 211 runs, Bangladesh reached a troublesome 115-6 from 38.4 overs by stumps. Sri Lankan spinners Prabath Jayasuriya and Dhananjaya de Silva picked up two wickets each after the opening strike from fast bowler Asitha Fernando.

For India, Henil Patel, RS Ambrish and Mohamed Enaan picked up two wickets each and Kanishk Chouhan unfurled the spell of the game with figures of 3-20.

Chasing just 175, Vaibhav Suryavanshi muscled five sixes in his 19-ball 48, and unbeaten wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu made 45* off 34 to anchor the innings alongside Rahul Kumar (17*).

Dewald Brevis Among Three Debutants As SA Name Playing XI For 1st Test

The South African cricket team management has named their playing XI for the upcoming first Test match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. As confirmed earlier, Keshav Maharaj will be leading the team in place of injured Temba Bavuma. White-ball specialist Dewald Brevis is in line for a Test debut alongside fellow youngsters Lhuan-dré Pretorius and Codi Yusuf.

The match marks South Africa’s first Test assignment since winning the 2025 WTC final against Australia.

Captain Glenn Maxwell made 42 off 23, while Glenn Phillips (33* off 23) and Obus Pienaar (23* off 16) anchored the chase with a 60-run partnership in six overs as Freedom secured a thrilling five-wicket win off the last ball.

Travis Head And Beau Webster Strengthen Australia’s Grip

Travis Head notched up his second half-century of the match as Australia begin to gain momentum against West Indies by Day 3 of the first Test in Bridgetown. Resuming the second Australian innings on Day 3 at 92-4, Head composed 61 quick runs before falling to Shamar Joseph. His overnight partner Beau Webster also reached his half-century shortly after the lunch break as Australia’s lead inched closer to the 200-run mark.
