In the latest development around IPL 2025, there are reports that Kolkata Knight Riders are in talks with Rajasthan Royals' director of cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, to become their next mentor. The defending champions are looking for a replacement for Gautam Gambhir, who left the three-times winner to join India as their new head coach.

According to a report from the Telegraph, Sangakkara  is likely to leave the franchise as talks are underway with KKR.  The reports mentioned that KKR will announce Sangakkara's signing by next week. Besides Gambhir, KKR's ex-assistant coach Abhishek Nayar also joined the Indian national team. Additionally, Ryan ten Doeschate has also joined Gambhir's support staff.

Rahul Dravid To Join Rajasthan Royals

Recently, Cricbuzz reported that Rajasthan Royals have roped in Dravid to join the one-time winners as head coach for IPL 2025. The reports mentioned that Dravid will rope Vikram Rathour as his assistant coach. Rathour played a key figure as India's batting coach during India's triumph at T20 World Cup 2024.

Sangakkara Rumoured to Join England

There were earlier reports that Kumar might move to England as their white-ball head coach, but the reports did not materialise as the Three Lions roped in Brendon McCullum to coach the white-ball side as well.

RR's Performance Under Sangakkara

Rajasthan Royals, who are still eyeing their 2nd IPL trophy despite winning the inaugural edition, have performed well under Sangakkara, as they even reached the finals in IPL 2022, but suffered a defeat against Gujarat Titans.

After finishing seventh in IPL 2021, Rajasthan Royals came fifth in IPL 2023 and finished third in the recently concluded season.
