The ODI futures of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will reportedly be discussed by the BCCI. Tilak Varma failed to go big for Hampshire to start off his One-Day Cup 2025 campaign on a torrid note. In other news, Australian middle-order batter Tim David has been fined by the ICC for showing dissent to an umpiring decision.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, August 5.

BCCI To Discuss Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli’s ODI Future

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will reportedly reconsider the ODI future of modern-day batting legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. As reported by the PTI, a BCCI source was quoted as saying that both cricketers will be pushing towards 40 by the time of the 2027 ICC ODI Men’s World Cup in South Africa. The source added that the board is planning to hold “some honest and professional conversations” before the next ODI cycle to determine the stand of the two cricketers, both physically and mentally.

Tilak Varma Fails In One-Day Cup Match For Hampshire

Rising Indian star Tilak Varma failed to replicate his County Championship success for Hampshire as he was dismissed for a sluggish three-ball duck against Glamorgan in a Group A match of the England One-Day Cup 2025 season.

Batting at number three, the cricketer was trapped by Ned Leonard in the 16th over of the match. Varma started off his County stint for Hampshire by plundering two centuries and an additional fifty-plus score over the last month-and-a-half.

Aimee Maguire Cleared To Bowl By ICC

Ireland Women spinner Aimee Maguire has been cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to resume her bowling in international cricket. Maguire was banned from bowling earlier this year after she was reported for holding a suspect bowling action back in January during Ireland’s short white-ball trip to India.

As confirmed by the ICC on their official website, Maguire has remodeled her bowling action and has undergone an independent re-assessment at a testing center. After the assessment, the ICC concluded that her revamped bowling action is now within the 15-degree level.

RCB’s Suyash Sharma Excels In DPL 2025 Against Purani Delhi-6

RCB spinner Suyash Sharma dismantled Purani Delhi-6 batting line-up with sensational figures of 4-17 from his four overs. Turning up for the Outer Delhi Warriors in match number six of the DPL 2025 season, Suyash dismissed Purani Delhi-6 opener Samarth Seth and captain Vansh Bedi as the Outer Delhi Warriors won the match by a staggering 82-run margin.

His spell helped the Warriors skittle Purani Delhi-6 for just 66 in 14.3 overs, thus consigning them to record one of the lowest-ever all out team totals in the history of DPL.

ICC Punishes Tim David For Showing Dissent Vs WI

The ICC has sanctioned Australian middle-order batter Tim David for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during the fifth T20I match of the recently-concluded series against West Indies. David has been found to have breached the Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

The cricketer was docked 10 percent of his match fees and received one demerit point for his gesture. Nonetheless, Tim David muscled 30 runs from just 12 balls in the match as Australia motored towards a thrilling three-wicket win to seal the five-match T20I series 5-0.
