Tim David got booked for showing dissent [Source: @CricCrazyJohns/X.com]
In a recent development, Australia's star middle-order batter Tim David has been punished by the ICC for showing dissent during the fifth and conclusive T20I match at St. Kitts against the West Indies on July 28.
Notably, David's breach of conduct was the only violation of disciplinary conduct in the match, and no other players have been booked for misbehaviour or foul play.
Why Was Tim David Punished?
Tim David was charged 10% of his match fees and one demerit point for the dissent at St. Kitts. The incident took place when Alzarri Joseph's delivery in the fifth over went down the leg side and was not given wide by the umpire. David, furious with the decision, charged towards the umpire in protest while stretching his arms in the gesture of a wide.
The behaviour of David has been deemed inappropriate by the ICC as he breached the ICC's Code of Conduct's Article 2.8, which states, "showing dissent at an umpire's decision during an international match."
David, who was probably overwhelmed during the chase of 171 runs, later accepted the sanctions brought by on-field umpires Zahid Bassarath, Leslie Reifer and proposed by match referee Reon King.
This was a Level 1 breach and according to ICC rules, Level 1 breaches can see official reprimand, handing of one or two demerit points and a fine of up to 50% of match fees. Notably, if a player accumulates four or more demerit points within 24 months, he might get suspension points, which also leads to bans.
David's Ton Highlights WI Tour For The Star
Nevertheless, David's performance in the series has been sublime. The star firepower for Australia played only two matches in the series and left an impact with his scores to uplift Australia in a clean sweep for the hosts in the Caribbean.
Notably, in his two innings, David scored 132 runs at an average of 132.00 and an astonishingly high strike rate of 269.39, all in match-winning causes, with a record-breaking ton off just 37 balls in the 3rd T20I.
