India's promising batter Tilak Varma had a forgettable outing in his first match in the English domestic One-Day competition as he was dismissed for a duck. Coming at three, Varma lasted only three deliveries before Ned Leonard got his prized scalp in the high-voltage encounter between Hampshire and Glamorgan.

Tilak Varma Registers A Bronze Duck For Hampshire

After winning the toss, Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson opted to bowl first and capitalise on the seam-friendly conditions with the new ball. However, Hampshire's opening duo of Alastair Orr and Nick Gubbins bravely countered Glamorgan's bowling attack, stitching a crucial partnership of 68 runs in 13.4 overs.

However, Ned Leonard eventually drew the first blood for Glamorgan, dismissing Orr for a quick-fire 44-ball 45. His departure brought Tilak Varma into the middle as the Indian batter joined skipper Gubbins.

Considering his potential and stature in the Indian domestic circuit, the Hampshire team management had set huge expectations from Tilak in this affair. However, the southpaw couldn't live up to his potential, getting dismissed for a duck in Leonard's next over.

He was caught by Asa Mark Tribe, making his way back to the dugout for a three-ball duck in the 16th over. Joe Wetherley and Tom Prest also couldn't do much, leaving Hampshire reeling at 115 for four in 27.5 overs.

Talking about Tilak, the Mumbai Indians batter was impressive in the County Championship, scoring 358 runs, including two tons and one fifty, across six innings at a superb average of 59.67. However, unfortunately, he couldn't replicate a similar success in his maiden One-Day Cup outing, registering a duck against Glamorgan.

Despite losing three players on cheap scores, Hampshire are steadily moving towards a respectable total, riding on a fighting knock by skipper Nick Gubbins. As of writing, they were 129 for four in 30.3 overs, with Gubbins and Ben Mayes batting on 68* and 7*, respectively.
