In a significant development, the proposed India-Sri Lanka white-ball series in August is not going ahead as planned. According to the reports, no such series will take place later in the month.

A report by Vipul Kashyap from ANI remarked that Sri Lanka Cricket has refuted reports of a white-ball series against India in the last week of August.

Notably, the plans to discuss a white-ball series between India and Sri Lanka started after the BCCI postponed the Bangladesh tour set to be held in August, because of the latter's anti-India stance.

Bangladesh Tour Postponement

Following the Operation Sindoor in May 2025, India cut ties with Pakistan and also slammed Bangladesh for supporting Pakistan. There was a backlash over India travelling to Bangladesh for the white-ball series, but eventually, the apex cricket board of India postponed the tour till September 2026.

"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026," the BCCI statement read.

"This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams," it added.

What Is Next For Team India?

Now with no Sri Lanka series one on the card, Asia Cup 2025 is the next challenge for the Men in Blue, which commences on September 9 in the UAE.

The tournament will be played in T20I format. Meanwhile, the Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli fans will have to wait a little longer as their idols won't be seen in international colours till October 2025 when India tour Australia for a white-ball series including ODIs.
