The inaugural edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy delivered unforgettable red-ball drama, packed with edge-of-the-seat Test action. As the England players shone with their batting masterclass, Harry Brook grabbed the limelight.

In the fifth Test, he dazzled with an exceptional century, and Team India’s head coach named him the Player of the Series. But in a humble twist, Brook believed that the honour should’ve gone to one of his teammates instead.

Brook Picks English Teammate As True Player of the Series

In the five-match Test series between England and India, cricket fans across the globe witness the unreal thrills of the longest format. As the English batters shattered the big stage with their brilliance, Harry Brook’s batting masterclass grabbed the limelight. In the fifth Test, he played an exceptional knock of 111 runs in just 98 deliveries and gave a massive boost to England.

After Brook showcased his consistency throughout the series, scoring 481 runs in five Tests, Gautam Gambhir picked him as the Player of the Series alongside Shubman Gill. While speaking on BBC’s Test Match Special, Brook named Joe Root as the deserving Player of the Series as he scored 537 runs in the series.

“I didn't score as many runs as Rooty (Joe Root), so I probably think he should be Man of the Series or Man of the Summer. He has been for many years,” he said.

Reflecting On The Devastating Defeat

In the entire series, the thrill soared to its highest in the fifth Test as the cricket world witnessed a dead battle between the two sides. While dominating the visitors, England was standing on the verge of victory, but Team India’s last-day brilliance flipped the script. Reflecting on the game, Harry Brook later opened up about the heartbreak of that crushing defeat.

“At the time, I was very confident. If I'd got a quick 30 in the next couple of overs, then the game is done. That was my thought process. I always try and take the game on and put them under pressure… I wish I was there at the end,” he added.

Despite leading the series by 2-1, England entered the fifth Test at the Oval. After a terrific batting show, England was just 35 runs away from the win on the last day. But Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna’s magic spelled England’s dream as the series ended on 2-2.
