On Wednesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released its latest rankings, which saw various Indian and Australian cricketers get a surge in their rankings after the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023. Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin, who were the stars at Ahmedabad, have been the chart-busters this week.

After notching his 28th Test century, Kohli has leapt 17 positions north on the Test batting rankings to get into the Top-15 batters. He is now the 13th overall batter in Tests.

The legendary off-spinner, after winning the Player of the Series award for his 25 wickets in the BGT 2023, has regained his first slot and has gained 10 more points after his Ahmedabad's wonders to displace James Anderson, who was till last week the joint number one Test bowler.

From Australia's camp, Ahmedabad's centurions Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green have also gained big in the ranking. The former has jumped two slots upwards to become the seventh-ranked Test batter, while the all-rounder has seen a spike of 12 spots to secure the 26th.

Green’s opposite number from the Indian dug-out, Axar Patel, has become the fourth-ranked Test all-rounder - thanks to his remarkable outings with the bat at Nagpur, Delhi and Ahmedabad against Australia.

India skipper, Rohit Sharma, who gave India a solid opening at the Narendra Modi Stadium, has seen a minimal surge in position to hold the 10th position. He is only second Indian, apart from Rishabh Pant, in the Test batting rankings.

The heart-wrenching Christchurch Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka has also helped some brilliant cricketers to come forth in the rankings.

Player of the Match, Daryl Mitchell - because of his 102 and counter-attacking 81 - has moved four spots upwards to seal the 8th overall. His captain, Tim Southee, has also risen six places to 12th on the Test bowler’s list.

Sri Lanka’s brightest hope at the Hagley Oval, Angelo Mathews, has moved up to become the 17th-ranked Test batter.

Player of the Series against West Indies, Aiden Markram, has improved to be at Number 11 batter. His skipper, Temba Bavuma, after a spellbinding 172, has become the 15th overall on the list.

Bangladesh’s historic series win over the T20 Champion, England, has pushed Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mustafizur Rahman to turn on the heat in the T20 Player Rankings by becoming the 16th-ranked T20I batter and 20th bowler, respectively.
