Don’t Think He’s At His Pure Best: Australian Great 'Not Impressed' with Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli scored a monumental hundred against Australia in the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023 to end his three-year rut, much to the adulation of former players, fans, and critics alike. This was Kohli's 28th Test and 75th international century for India, and interestingly his fifth since September 2022.

However, former Australian player Mark Waugh believes that Kohli, despite slamming 186 in Ahmedabad over the last weekend, is yet to hit his best form.

The 34-year-old in the BGT 2023, often looked good, but a lack of concentration, poor-shot selection, and a few dicey on-field umpiring decisions cost the former India skipper his wicket.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Waugh said that Kohli peaked as a batter in 2019, and is yet to reach that level.

Here's what Waugh said

"The drought’s over. The gates have opened. You could tell right from the get-go he meant business. He played very few risky shots. He was so patient, just picked the bowling off.

I don’t think he’s at his pure best at the moment, as far as his Test career is concerned … but it just shows you his class,”

As a result of his stellar hundred, Kohli was awarded the Player of the Match.

After completing the Test series, which India won 2-1, Kohli returned home to Mumbai and will re-group with the Indian squad before the start of the three-match ODI series against Australia, beginning March 17.
