Ravichandran Ashwin snared six Australian wickets on a flat Ahmedabad deck across the first two days of the match. The cricketer toiled away with 47.2 overs, and led India’s charge to dismiss the tourists for 480, who once looked settled for an even higher score while being placed at 378-4.

Ashwin also managed to pile up several Test records during the course of his industrious spell. Moreover, he has now joined James Anderson in an elite Test list.

Ashwin shares exclusive spot

Ashwin’s spell of 6-91 marked his 32nd five-wicket haul in Test cricket. He joined English seamer James Anderson, who also has 32 five-wicket hauls to his name in the format. However, while the Englishman has achieved the feat in 179 Tests, the Indian spinner reached the figure in just his 92nd Test match.

Notably, both Ashwin and Anderson are also currently sharing the top spot for Test bowlers in ICC rankings.

In terms of all-time leaders in five-wicket hauls, the two active Test cricketers are now behind Muthiah Muralitharan (67), Shane Warne (37), Richard Hadlee (36), Anil Kumble (35) and Rangana Herath (34).

Additionally, out of the 32 fifers for Ashwin in Tests, he has taken 26 of those while playing in India. His recent spell took him past former Indian captain and spin legend Anil Kumble, who claimed 25 five-wicket hauls in his career.

Moreover, the 36-year-old also extended his tally against Australia to 112 wickets. He once again went past Kumble’s haul against the same opponent, who had taken 111 scalps against them in his journey.
