Despite drawing the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2023, India have qualified for the Final of the World Test Championship (WTC 2023), which is to be held at the Oval on June 7. While talking about the preparation for the ICC finale, Indian captain Rohit Sharma spilled some beans during the post-match press conference.
During the fifth Test's first session, India qualified for the WTC Final when New Zealand won a nail-biter, ending Sri Lanka's slim chances of making to the finale.
Rohit spoke about the preparation the Indian Test cricketers will be asked to undertake during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL 2023).
The Indian skipper first revealed that the players whose IPL team won't qualify for the playoffs would fly two weeks before the WTC Final, i.e. by May 21. Meanwhile, all the Test regulars will practice with the Duke's Ball during their IPL nets.
Furthermore, India's Test Number three batter - Cheteshwar Pujara - will be flown earlier to England to get adapt to the English conditions. Interestingly, the veteran has already signed a country contract with Sussex for the Championship set to begin on April 6.
Thanks to Rohit's astute leadership, India have regained the BGT for the fourth straight time; however, the recently concluded series was just a dress rehearsal for the much-anticipated WTC Final, to which India have qualified successively.
