Daryl Mitchell thinks not utilising small moments made them lose the game

After being bitten by the 'Bazball' in the first Test, New Zealand will be looking to make a strong comeback against England in the next game to level the series. 

All-rounder Daryl Mitchell played a half-century knock in the second innings when they were chasing a stiff target where they couldn't get anyway near to the total.

Mitchell reckoned that there were small moments in the game on which they couldn't capitalise and had to pay the price for it as the visitors piled on runs in the third innings.

Moreover, he mentioned that it won't always go in your favour as it is the nature of Test cricket but the 31-year-old believes that they are not very far away from winning it.

"If you looked into that third innings, I think we had them six down for 230-240 - I'm not sure of the exact numbers - but if we had taken a couple of quick wickets, the game could have been a lot different,"


"So, for us, it's actually not too far away. It's sticking true to who we are as Kiwis and Blackcaps, and what's worked for us for a number of years now. Yeah, we are missing a couple of small moments now, which is disappointing, but we also know that's the nature of Test cricket, and it's not always going to go your way, and it can be a bloody hard game at times. But we also know we are not too far away."

The BlackCaps will hope for a revenge when they fight in the second Test that will be played from 24th February in Wellington.
