In a remarkable turn of events, veteran Indian batter Rohit Sharma has added another feather to his decorated crown, completing 17000 runs in international cricket. The Indian captain joined the elites of the game- Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni- by attaining the landmark during India's first innings of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad.

Most Runs for India across formats

  • Sachin Tendulkar: 34357 Runs in 782 Innings
  • Virat Kohli: 25047 Runs in 551 Innings
  • Rahul Dravid: 24064 Runs in 599 Innings
  • Sourav Ganguly: 18433 Runs in 485 Innings
  • MS Dhoni: 17092 Runs in 523 Innings
  • Rohit Sharma: 17003* Runs in 457 Innings

Despite enjoying prolific success as an opener in limited-overs cricket, Rohit has had a topsy-turvy Test career.

Although he had a dream start to Test cricket, slamming twin centuries against West Indies, the stylish right-handed batter found it tough to get going in his first overseas cycle.

However, as soon as he was promoted to the top order after Murali Vijay went out of favour, the Mumbai batter amazed everyone with his impressive outings in the purest format.

After scoring truckloads of runs at home, Rohit found his first major breakthrough on overseas soil when he emerged as India's wrecker-in-chief with the bat during the famous England tour in 2021.

Speaking of the match, Australia posted a gigantic total of 480 runs before being bowled out in the final session of day 2. In reply, India were 58 for no loss with Rohit and Gill batting on 24* and 33*, respectively, at the time of writing.
