In a significant update from the meeting between the BCCI and the 10 IPL franchises, it has been reported that Kolkata's owner and Punjab's co-owner, Ness Wadia, had a heated debate over a mega auction debate.

As reported by Cricbuzz, the two owners argued over whether the IPL 2025 mega-auctions should have any retentions or not.

It is believed that the IPL 2024-winning franchise's owner got furious while Wadia was against too many retentions.

"At one stage, Shah Rukh was believed to be engaged in a heated argument with Ness Wadia, the co-owner of Punjab Kings. It is understood that Shah Rukh was also in favour of major retentions while Wadia is believed to be against too many retentions," Cricbuzz reported.

"A consensus on the mega auction - whether to have it or not - will eventually determine the number of retentions. If the BCCI decide to do away with the mega auctions, there may not be a requirement for retentions at all."

Argument breaks out between KKR and PBKS owners

As per reports, the BCCI might allow IPL franchises to retain several uncapped players under a separate slot ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction. Moreover, the Indian board is also considering to increase the salary cap from INR 90 crores to a staggering INR 130 crores.

Apparently, KKR owner Shahrukh Khan is against the idea of BCCI holding a mega auction for the impending IPL 2025 season. The Bollywood actor is in favor of BCCI allowing an increment in the retentions of players, which subsequently led him to a conflict with Punjab Kings owner Ness Wadia.
