Gautam Gambhir has dropped crucial hints regarding Team India’s composition for the five-match Test series against England. Zaheer Khan will likely be sacked as the mentor of the LSG franchise after a disappointing IPL 2025 season. In other news, England and Bangladesh have announced their Test squads for the impending series against India and Sri Lanka respectively.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, June 5.

Gautam Gambhir Hints Karun Nair’s Return For ENG Tests

Indian coach Gautam Gambhir has hinted a potential return to international cricket for Karun Nair. While speaking with the reporters before flying out to England, Gambhir cited Karun’s experience of playing County Cricket as one of the reasons behind his inclusion in the Indian playing XI for the forthcoming five-match Test series. It is worth noting that Nair also started out his England tour with an exceptional 204 from 281 balls for India A against England Lions bowlers in Canterbury earlier this week.

Zaheer Khan Likely To Be Sacked After LSG’s Horror IPL 2025

Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan will reportedly be sacked as the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise. According to Cricbuzz on June 5, there were reports of dissatisfaction within the squad and the management after LSG’s underwhelming outing this IPL 2025 season.

Head coach Justin Langer also drew criticism for his coaching style, as LSG, under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, finished seventh on the IPL 2025 points table. Despite starting out with four wins from six games, the LSG ended their campaign with just six wins and eight defeats from 14 league fixtures.

Rajat Patidar Should Be In Indian Team, Believes Childhood Coach

Rajat Patidar deserves a spot in the Indian white-ball setup, according to his childhood coach and former Indian cricketer Amay Khurasiya. Patidar recently led the RCB franchise to their first-ever IPL title, doing so in Ahmedabad against Punjab Kings earlier this week to cap the 2025 edition of the tournament.

Khurasiya believes that the presence of Rajat Patidar in the Indian national team will further strengthen their middle-order batting line-up.

Overton Returns As England Name Squad For First Test

The England cricket team has named a 14-player squad for the upcoming series-opening first Test match against India at Headingley in Leeds. Gus Atkinson was ruled out of the squad owing to an injury, prompting the return of Jamie Overton into the line-up.

Charismatic all-rounder Ben Stokes will continue to lead the English team, with fellow senior pros like Joe Root, Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett accompanying him. England’s series against India will launch from June 20 onwards later this month.

Litton Das, Ebadot Included In Bangladesh’s Squad For SL Tests

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced Bangladesh’s 16-player squad for the upcoming two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. Litton Das and Ebadot Hossain have been recalled into the team, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib, who struggled against Zimbabwe, has been excluded from the group.

Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue to serve as captain and vice-captain of the Bangladesh team. The series will launch from June 17 onwards in Galle, and the two matches will also constitute a part of the 2025-27 WTC cycle.
