The England Cricket team on Thursday announced their 14-member squad for the upcoming first Test against India, which commences on Friday, June 20. There is hardly any surprising inclusion or exclusion, but Gus Atkinson, who was England's star in 2024 has been ruled out due to an injury.

CSK star back in the side

In his place, the team has drafted in CSK star, Jamie Overton as the team aims to beat an inexperienced Indian team in the 5-match Test series. Ben Stokes will lead the team while the rest of the squad remains the same which defeated Zimbabwe recently.

Interestingly, Overton last played against New Zealand in 2022. On the other hand, the team will miss the services of Atkinson, who was ruled out of the Test match due to a hamstring injury.

Key trio make their return

Jacob Bethell, Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse are all back in the team after missing the Zimbabwe Test match. Woakes has a terrific record against India and could hold the key in the bowling department.

Also, Carse has exceptional control over his lines and lengths and could be lethal up-front against Indian batters.

Core team retained

England's core batting lineup of Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett have all been included as they aim to beat the Indian team. The Three Lions' batting will hold the key as India will aim to exploit their ultra-aggressive approach.

The first Test of the series will take place in Headingley, Leeds, a ground which favours the home team.
