Rajat Patidar led the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise to a historic IPL 2025 victory at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, June 3. Under his leadership, RCB pipped Punjab Kings by six runs to lift the coveted silverware for the first time in the league’s 18-year history.

Following RCB’s triumph, Rajat Patidar’s childhood coach Amay Khurasiya has now urged the Indian selection committee to include the cricketer in the national white-ball setup.

Rajat Patidar will strengthen middle-order, says coach

Former Indian cricketer and Rajat Patidar’s childhood coach Amay Khurasiya has urged the BCCI and the selection committee to include RCB’s IPL 2025 winning captain in the national team, at least for limited overs matches. Khurasiya believes that Patidar’s inclusion in India’s white-ball setup will further strengthen the middle order of the team

During an interview with PTI and as quoted by Republic World, Amay Khurasiya said:

“Rajat has proven himself. He deserves a place in the Indian team at least in limited overs (ODI and T20). His presence in the team will strengthen the middle-order of the team. He has been doing this for a long time. It’s on the selectors now and they should consider his performance.”

Rajat Patidar was appointed as RCB captain by the team management prior to the IPL 2025 season. In his IPL leadership debut, RCB finished the league stage of the tournament at number two on the points table with nine wins from 14 matches.

Becoming the first RCB skipper in history to lead the franchise to IPL glory, Patidar also chipped in with 312 runs from 14 innings at a cracking strike rate of 143.77. Notably, the Madhya Pradesh cricketer has played an ODI for India, doing so back in December 2023 before getting dropped by the management.
