India and England met for the fourth Test match of the five-match Test series of England’s tour of India at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. On Day 4, the Indian Team registered a tense victory by five-wickets.

By winning the fourth Test, the Indian team also registered the series win with a final game to go at Dharamsala. The Indian team missed plenty of their star cricketers throughout the series due to various reasons but youngsters stood up and delivered for the team.

‘It means the world to us’ - Shubman Gill on playing for Indian Test Team against England

Shubman Gill appreciated the young debutant Dhruv Jurel for creating a strong partnership with him in the second innings of the game. In the post match ceremony, Shubman Gill talked about dealing with the pressures on the field that were created by the English bowlers. He said,

“We were put under pressure by them, but we got a good start from our openers, losing a couple of wickets put pressure. But Jurel came out and took the pressure off. You have to see the situation and play accordingly - they were bowling well and protecting the boundaries, also not giving maidens and keep picking the singles (was the mindset).”

While praising Jurel for his mindset and ruling out the possibility of LBW by working on his feet, Gill discussed,

"I just told him (Jurel) that you batted beautifully in the first innings and to have the same mindset and try to use your feet to negate the off-spinner. The way he came down and played was beautiful. In the first innings, the ball was not turning much and hence I didn't use my feet, but in the second innings, I decided to take the LBW out of the equation by using my feet."

He further added,

“It means the world to us, coming here and having to play the series with not much batting experience, having lost KL after the first Test.. but Rohit Bhai backed us and gave us the confidence to go out and play with freedom."

Expressing his gratitude for getting the opportunity to play red ball cricket for India, Shubman Gill concluded. India and England will play the final Test match of the series from 7th March at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
