'Kabaddi Kabaddi!' - Shikhar Dhawan's Cheeky Take On Rizwan's Short Run Fiasco

Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan brought a lighter perspective to a bizarre moment from the third T20 International between New Zealand and Pakistan earlier this week. The match, which saw New Zealand emerge victorious and clinch the series 3-0, was not without its share of drama, particularly involving Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan.

Dhawan comes up with a cheeky tweet on Rizwan's running between wickets

The incident in question occurred during Pakistan's pursuit of New Zealand's formidable 224/7, led by Finn Allen's explosive 137 off 62 balls. With Pakistan at 49/1 in the sixth over, Rizwan, in a bid to accelerate the score, found himself in a peculiar situation. After playing a shot to the on-side, he lost his balance and his bat. Opting to continue running, Rizwan stretched to make the crease with his body, leading to a peculiar visual of him diving without the bat.

This unusual effort was not without consequences. Replays later revealed that Rizwan was short of the crease, resulting in a short run. This error along with his subsequent dismissal for 24 off 20 balls, contributed to Pakistan's inability to chase down the target, eventually ending at 179/7.

Commenting on this quirky moment, Dhawan, known for his jovial nature, took to Twitter to share his take. He posted pictures of Rizwan's run, humorously captioning them “Kabaddi Kabaddi Kabaddi” along with laughing emojis. This reference to the popular sport, where a player must touch a line and return to their side added a playful spin to the bizarre cricketing moment.

While the incident and Dhawan's witty tale provided some levity, Rizwan's efforts continued to be noteworthy. In the subsequent fourth T20I on Friday, he single-handedly led Pakistan's batting with a remarkable 90 off 63 balls, though it was not enough to secure a victory against the dominant New Zealand side, who chased down Pakistan's 158/5 with ease to take a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.
