Sydney Sixers have secured a place in the final of the Big Bash League 2023-24 by beating Brisbane Heat by 39 runs in the first qualifier of the tournament, played at Carrara Oval, Queensland.

Brisbane Heat won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sydney Sixers, handed the bat, posted 158 runs on the scoreboard, losing eight wickets. Captain Moises Henriques stole the show, notching up 59 runs from 50 balls.

Brisbane Heat's chase never really took off, losing wickets regularly. Jimmy Pierson was the top scorer with 26 runs off 25 balls. However, the table toppers got all out for 113 runs in just 17.5 overs.

Sydney Sixers' standout bowler was left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis, who bagged five wickets in 3.5 overs, giving away only 21 runs. Additionally, Hayden Kerr and Jack Edwards each claimed two wickets.

Jack Edwards, giving away only 26 runs in his four overs, including a maiden, added excitement to the match by taking a spectacular wicket—that of Spencer Johnson, caught off his own bowling.

It all happened in the 17th over, when Jack Edwards delivered a length off, and Johnson, stationed on the leg side, smashed it dead straight. It appeared headed for the boundary, but then Edwards stuck out his right hand and pulled off an unbelievable catch.
