The highly anticipated opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League 2024 between Comilla Victorians and Durdanto Dhaka kicked off at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Friday. The game commenced with Durdanto Dhaka winning the toss and electing to field.

Naim's sensational catch seals Litton Das' early exit in BPL opener

Despite a steady start, the Victorians faced a significant setback in the fourth over. The crucial point came with the dismissal of their captain, Litton Das, who fell victim to a well-executed delivery by Chaturanga de Silva. Das' innings, which included a powerful four and a six, ended abruptly, leaving the Victorians at 23 for one after four overs.

De Silva delivered a slightly short ball that unexpectedly held onto the deck. The ball, bouncing higher than anticipated, posed a challenge for Das. Attempting to execute a cut shot, he misjudged the bounce, leading to the ball soaring towards point.

This mistake provided an opportunity for the backward point fielder Mohammad Naim, who showcased remarkable athleticism by taking a sensational diving catch to his left, ending Das' potentially dangerous stint at the crease.

Despite the loss of the captain, a commendable partnership of 107 runs between Imrul Kayes and Towhid Hridoy provided some stability to their innings. But following Hridoy's departure, the team's performance dwindled, culminating in a modest total of 143/6 at the end of their 20 overs.

In response, Durdanto Dhaka seized the opportunity and aggressively kicked off their chase. In the first four overs, they managed to score 37 runs without losing a wicket. Mohammad Naim, particularly, shone brightly, swiftly scoring 29 off 15 balls, including three fours and two sixes, alongside Danushka Ganathilaka.
