Delhi captain Himmat Singh made the slip cordon his personal den on the opening day of his side’s Elite Group D Ranji Trophy 2024 fixture against Madhya Pradesh. The 27-year-old snared four sensational catches at the position, including three off the bowling of Divij Mehra, to envelop the Madhya Pradesh batting line-up for 171.

Himmat dove to his right and, at times, flew to his left as he effortlessly collected perhaps four of the best catches of the tournament this year.

Delhi captain Himmat Singh stationed himself at the clip cordon against the swinging rhythm of his new-ball speedsters Divij Mehra and Himanshu Chauhan. Both Mehra and Chauhan accounted for eight wickets between them to shoot out Madhya Pradesh for just 171 in 53.2 overs within the opening day of their four-day bout at Indore’s Holkar Stadium.

Remarkably, captain Singh assisted Mehra in each of his three dismissals with sensational slip fielding. The former RCB cricketer also made a stunning dive to his left to pack Sumit Kushwah for just three, thus handing Chauhan one of his five wickets of the innings.

After Madhya Pradesh’s first innings, Delhi reached 86-2 by stumps on Day 1. Currently trailing by another 85 runs, Delhi will resume their innings on Day 2 with captain Himmat Singh (19*) and opener Yash Dhull (36*) still batting at the crease.

Notably, Singh was appointed as Delhi skipper for the Ranji Trophy 2024 season earlier this month, after the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) sacked former Under-19 World Cup winner Dhull as captain.
