One of the contenders for the Indian team's head coach position is former Australian batter Justin Langer. Although Rahul Dravid currently holds the coaching role, his contract is set to expire after the T20 World Cup 2024. Despite India's offer, Langer has declined the opportunity.

Justin Langer shared a discussion he had with KL Rahul, where Langer disclosed that Rahul expressed to him that the 'politics and pressure' encountered by the head coach of the Indian cricket team surpasses that of any IPL coach by 'almost a thousand times.'

"I was talking to KL Rahul and he said, 'You know, if you think there's pressure and politics in an IPL team, multiply that by a thousand, [that's] coaching India. That was a good bit of advice, I guess"- Langer said to BBC.

Justin Langer's former teammate and current Delhi Capitals head coach, Ricky Ponting, also turned down the coaching job offer from India, citing similar reasons. Ponting expressed reluctance to make a long-term commitment at the moment.

Meanwhile, Jay Shah, has stated that BCCI is not looking at any foreign coach, and are not in talks with any former Australian cricketer.

VVS Laxman was another candidate considered by the BCCI, but he declined the proposal and opted to continue his role at the National Cricket Academy.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir emerges as a leading contender for the Indian coaching position. Other names in consideration include Stephen Fleming of CSK and Mahela Jayawardene, former MI coach.
