After the end of T20 World Cup, Rahul Dravid will be stepping down from his role as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Originally, Dravid's contract was slated to end after the ODI World Cup, but BCCI decided to extend it for an additional year, specifically until the T20 World Cup.

The BCCI has been searching for alternatives to replace Dravid, considering several names. Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of KKR, is the hottest addition to the discussion.

Flower also declines Team India coaching job

Earlier, VVS Laxman, Justin Langer (LSG coach), Ponting (DC) and Stephen Fleming (CSK coach) were also considered. The latest name to surface as a possible coach is Andy Flower of RCB.

But Andy Flower has confirmed that he has no plans to take up the role of India's coach. The former Zimbabwe skipper made this statement after RCB exited from the IPL playoffs, losing to RR in the eliminator.

"I haven't applied. I won't be applying. I am happy with my involvement in the franchise game at the moment," said Andy Flower at a press conference.

Andy Flower had previously coached the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and is involved with several other franchises worldwide. Andy Flower isn't currently considering dedicating his entire year to coaching a team.

BCCI seeks commitment for the next 3 years until the ODI World Cup, aiming for stability and vision from the next manager. Gautam Gambhir's name has been most discussed recently for the coaching job, especially after leading KKR to the IPL 2024 final.
