After Justin Langer claimed he rejected BCCI’s offer to embrace the head coach’s position, BCCI secretary Jay Shah dismissed those speculations saying neither he nor the board ever approached any Australian or foreign cricketer for that matter for the soon-to-be-vacated head coach position for the Indian senior cricket team.

BCCI invited applications for the head coach position of the Indian senior cricket team earlier this month as Rahul Dravid’s tenure is set to end after the T20 World Cup.

The next tenure will commence from July this year and last until December 31, 2027.

That being said, earlier this week, Australian former coach Justin Langer claimed the BCCI approached him for the head coach role, which he ended up rejecting due to high-pressure demand for the job.

However, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has come out to dismiss those rumours saying neither he nor the board has approached Langer or any Australian cricketer for the head coach position.

Shah added that the board is looking for a candidate who is well versed with Indian domestic cricket culture and has risen up the ranks. The Indian senior cricket team head coach role is the most prestigious and hence the board does not take things lightly.

"Neither I nor the BCCI have approached any former Australian cricketer with a coaching offer. The reports circulating in certain media sections are completely incorrect. Finding the right coach for our national team is a meticulous and thorough process," said Jay Shah.

"We are focused on identifying individuals who possess a deep understanding of the Indian cricket structure and have risen through the ranks. It's crucial that our coach has an in-depth knowledge of our domestic cricket framework to truly elevate Team India to the next level."

Jay Shah added that the person elected for the role must possess the qualities and ability to take Indian cricket to the next level.

Notably, Gautam Gambhir has emerged as the most preferred candidate for the head coach role. The application deadline is till May 27, 6 pm and subsequently, BCCI will review applications and conduct thorough interview and assessment of the shortlisted candidates.
