In a significant development, India's swashbuckling keeper-batter Ishan Kishan is all set to make his red-ball comeback with the Buchi Babu tournament. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the Jharkhand State Cricket Association has announced Ishan as their captain for the famed domestic competition.

Ishan Kishan to make red-ball comeback as captain

The Buchi Babu tournament is a pre-season red-ball competition and will kickstart in Tamil Nadu from August 15.

Ishan was initially not in the mix, but was considered for selection after he confirmed his availability to the Jharkhand State Cricket Association.

So, the team management has decided to rope-in as the skipper, giving him a golden opportunity to make his comeback to the Indian Test setup.

Ishan, who featured in a domestic first-class match for the last time in 2022, expressed his disinterest to play the Ranji Trophy, eventually losing his central contract earlier this year.

However, considering he will lead Jharkhand in the Buchi Babu trophy, the southpaw is expected to bring his A-game and compete with Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel for the wicket-keeper's position in the national side.

Nevertheless, his comeback won't be easy, as Pant will be India's first-choice keeper, while Jurel has impressed everyone with his batting and glove work.

In two Test matches, Ishan Kishan has amassed 78 runs, including a fifty, at a blistering strike rate of 85.7. So, if he returns this home season, he will certainly be an asset for India's batting order.
