Tim Southee's brilliance with the ball was on full display during the 28th match of The Hundred 2024, as the Birmingham Phoenix pacer came tantalizingly close to securing a hat-trick against the Trent Rockets at Edgbaston on August 12.
Southee’s fiery spell began to dismantle the Rockets' batting lineup, culminating in a sensational five-wicket haul.
His fifth wicket came on the 98th ball of Trent Rockets' innings with a good-length delivery aimed at the middle and leg stump.
Daniel Cook, trying to guide it to the on-side, was beaten as the ball sneaked through the gap between bat and pad, crashing into the off stump. Southee was on a hat-trick, and the anticipation soared.

However, his hat-trick dream was crushed in the very next delivery. John Andrew Turner, facing Southee’s menacing bowling, was almost caught off-guard. Southee’s delivery struck Turner’s pad, and the umpire initially raised his finger for an LBW.
The Kiwi pacer celebrated what seemed like a hat-trick, but Turner reviewed the decision. UltraEdge revealed a clear inside edge, nullifying the LBW and denying Tim Southee the hat-trick.
Despite missing out on the hat-trick, Southee's exceptional performance helped restrict Trent Rockets to 118, leaving his mark on the match with a memorable five-wicket haul.
