According to emerging reports, wily spinner Abrar Ahmed might not play Pakistan's first Test against Bangladesh at Rawalpindi International Stadium. Led by Shan Masood, Pakistan will cross swords against a spirited Bangladesh side in the two-match series opener between August 21 and 25.

The Test series is crucial from Pakistan's perspective as they aim to secure a place in the WTC final by displaying their dominance at home.

Saim to compete with Huraira, Abrar doubtful for 1st Test

Meanwhile, according to Cricket Pakistan, the hosts might field a pace-heavy side for the first Test to capitalise the seam-friendly overcast conditions in Rawalpindi.

If it happens, Khurram Shehzad and one between Mir Hamza and Mohammad Ali will be picked as deputies to the lethal duo of Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah.

Furthermore, the report claims that Saim Ayub and Mohammad Huraira are competing for the second opener's slot in Pakistan's playing XI.

In his brief international career, Ayub hasn't quite lived up to the hype, while Huraira has got a much-deserved Test call-up for his impressive domestic performances.

So, the four-day match between Pakistan Shaheens and Bangladesh A will be crucial for both players, as Huraira and Ayub will try to convince the team management in their favour.

Whoever performs better in the four-day game will open the batting alongside Abdullah Shafique in the first Test.
