Australian wicket-keeper batter Josh Inglis has been given the green light to participate in the first ODI against the West Indies at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), despite testing positive for COVID-19.

Inglis plays in MCG despite being COVID Positive

Inglis, who has not returned a negative test yet, will adhere to strict guidelines, maintaining a safe distance from teammates on the field and utilizing a separate dressing room at the venue.

This bold move follows a recent trend in Australian cricket, where players like Moises Henriques and Cameron Green showcased resilience by playing matches while carrying the COVID-19 virus.

Inglis, set to open the batting with Travis Head after David Warner's retirement, will navigate the match under the shadow of the virus, following the path of coach Andrew McDonald and explosive batter Travis Head, who had also contracted COVID-19 during the ongoing home season.

Inglis, operating under strict COVID-19 protocols, may not be functioning at 100%, but his determination to contribute to the team's success is evident. The wicketkeeper-batter's commitment to the game, despite the suffering from COVID-19, reflects the resilience and adaptability of Australian cricket in the face of adversity.

Talking about the ongoing match, Australia's decision to bowl first after winning the toss at the MCG yielded positive results as the West Indies found themselves struggling at 96/4 after 25 overs. Debutant Xavier Bartlett, making a mark in his first appearance, proved instrumental by picking up three crucial wickets.
