Jofra Archer has been in constant battle with injuries in the last few years, and now ahead of the ODI series against West Indies, the pacer has suffered another setback. He is out of the three-match series due to a right thumb injury and Luke Wood has been named as his replacement.
Jofra Archer Gets Injured Again Ahead Of Test Comeback
According to ECB, the England Cricket Board will reassess fast bowler's injury over the next fortnight, putting his participation in the upcoming five-match Test series against India in doubt. Jofra Archer was part of the RR squad in IPL 2025 and played all the 12 matches before the season was suspended.
There is no clarity when Jofra injured his right thumb, but it probably happened during a training session. As a result, the English fast bowler did not return for the last two RR matches. Jofra Archer missed quite a lot of cricket in the last few years due to an elbow injury, and only started playing consistently for England from T20 World Cup 2024.
Luke Wood Gets Another Opportunity In English Colours
ECB has been vocal over managing the workload of Jofra Archer, and there were earlier reports that he would not be available for IPL 2025 given the busy English summer ahead. Thus, the English Board has clear plans of bringing in Jofra Archer back in the Test setup, a format which he last played in 2021.
Now, Jofra's injury is another opportunity for Luke Wood to make an impression at the international stage. The left-arm pacer has played two ODIs for England so far, and is yet to pick an international wicket, something which he would be looking to change against West Indies.
