As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 approaches its climax, three teams, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings, have almost secured playoff spots. The battle for the final qualification place remains intense, with Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals eyeing for the last berth.
Amid this high-octane IPL season, Times of India journalist Gaurav Gupta reports that around 12 state cricket associations in India are set to conduct their own T20 leagues once the IPL concludes.
Saurashtra Pro T20 Joins the Post-IPL Cricket Boom
Notably, the IPL playoffs are scheduled to begin on May 29 at the New PCA Stadium in New Chandigarh, culminating in the final on June 3 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the world’s largest cricket arena.
Gaurav Gupta notified the busy season for the talent scouts because of the upcoming leagues soon to be declared by 12 states. The latest addition to this growing list is the Saurashtra Cricket Association, which recently announced the Saurashtra Pro T20 League.
“Around 12 state cricket associations in India are set to conduct their T20 league once the IPL is over...Saurashtra Cricket Association is the latest as it announced today the Saurashtra Pro T20 League..clearly, the IPL talent scouts will nt be free after the IPL too!” Gupta notes.
Though there has been not much information about the league, the Pro T20 name suggests it might feature veterans like Ravindra Jadeja and KKR youngster Chetan Sakariya too who play for Saurashtra.
This development highlights the expanding domestic T20 ecosystem in India, which has been gaining momentum over recent years. The Saurashtra Premier League (SPL), which is already a renowned compeition, established in 2019, already became a key platform for emerging talent in the region, with five franchises competing annually.
The Rise Of T20 Leagues Across India
These leagues are typically scheduled outside the IPL window to avoid clashes and allow scouts to monitor performances closely. The rise of state T20 leagues across India, from Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka to Mumbai and now Saurashtra, has significantly broadened the talent pool.
This has been instrumental in unearthing young stars who have gone on to shine in the IPL and even the national team. With at least a dozen such leagues slated for this year, IPL franchises will have a wealth of talent to explore once the main tournament concludes.
As IPL 2025 heads into its final phase, the cricketing calendar in India is set to remain bustling, with state leagues providing continuous opportunities for players to showcase their skills and for franchises to discover the next generation of cricketing stars.
