The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has greenlit the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) to begin the reconstruction work of the Moin-ul-Haq sports stadium in a bid to enhance the cricketing landscape of Bihar.
The 25,000-seater was established back in 1969, and has so far hosted nine international matches. The stadium was also used to host a match from the 1996 ODI Cricket World Cup.
Jay Shah affirms plans for Moin-ul-Haq Stadium
BCCI secretary Jay Shah has assured the Department of Sports, Government of Bihar that the revamped Moin-ul-Haq Stadium will be dedicated to the development of cricket in Bihar. In a letter written to the principal secretary of Bihar’s sports branch, Shah also expressed his gratitude towards the department.
The announcement was made shortly after BCCI held a significant meeting in Mumbai earlier this week, where the Indian cricket board approved a number of proposals made by BCA President Rakesh Kumar.
The BCA President also recently confirmed that upon the full reconstruction of the Moin-ul-Haq stadium, the venue will feature a world-class ground, a five-star residential complex, a clubhouse as well as a number of other facilities.
Earlier this year, the BCA acquired the venue from the Bihar government on a long-term lease. The cricket association is currently using the stadium as a home ground for the Bihar Cricket team. The Moin-ul-Haq stadium even hosted a number of Ranji Trophy matches for Bihar in the recently-concluded 2024 season.
