Criticised for the historic venue's woeful condition during the recent Ranji Trophy 2024 game against Mumbai, the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has pledged to refurbish Patna's Moin-ul-Haq stadium by acquiring the ground on a long-term lease from the state's government.

Established in 1969, the ground is an international venue that has hosted nine games at the highest level alongside many first-class games. However, it was in substandard shape when Mumbai, the eventual winners, visited shores to play Bengal during the initial league stage of India's premier domestic first-class competition

In dire need of being resurrected by the state authorities, the Moin-ul-Haq Stadium will now be undergoing major redevelopment to restore its old pride and respect and transform it into a state-of-the-art facility up to international standards.

BCA To Revive Moin-ul-Haq Stadium In Bihar

To this end, the BCA has signed an agreement with the Bihar government and taken the venue completely under its wings. The ground will be undergoing major reconstruction and redevelopment work during the off-season.

"This development marks a significant step towards the advancement of cricket infrastructure in Bihar. I’m incredibly grateful to the Bihar government for their trust and vision," BCA president Rakesh Kumar Tiwari was quoted as saying by News18.

Tiwari expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the state's sports ministry.

"I would like to thank Bihar CM Nitish Kumar ji and Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary ji and Vijay Sinha ji for the gesture towards BCA."

The Moin-ul-Haq Stadium's poor condition is the reason Bihar's Ranji Trophy team has only played four home games in first-class cricket despite the ground once hosting the 1996 World Cup game.
