Ganguly Takes Dig At MI For Captaincy Removal As India Dominate In T20 World Cup 2024

In a stern dig at Mumbai Indians, who dismissed Rohit Sharma from captaincy this IPL season, Sourav Ganguly revealed how life comes full circle as the same Rohit is now leading India to the T20 World Cup finals, that too on an unbeaten streak.

The Indian cricket team will be playing the 2024 T20 World Cup finals against South Africa tomorrow at Barbados to finally end the decade long ICC trophy drought.

The men in blue, led by Rohit Sharma, have so far stayed unbeaten in this tournament and beat England by 68 runs to qualify for the ultimate title deciding game.

That being said, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, this is the second straight ICC final India will be playing in a span of 8 months. In November 2023, India lost to Australia in the ODI World Cup final.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer and head coach Sourav Ganguly wished the Indian team luck for the finals and heaped praises on Rohit’s leadership at a recent event.

Ganguly stated that he is happy for Rohit Sharma as his life has come full circle. He was removed from captaincy by Mumbai Indians earlier this year as they appointed Hardik Pandya as the new leader of the franchise.

Hence, coming from that setback and then leading the Indian cricket team to a World Cup final is not a small achievement in Ganguly’s eyes.

"I'm very happy for Rohit Sharma. Life comes full circle. Six months ago he was not even the captain of Mumbai Indians and the same man is now leading India to a World Cup final, unbeaten," Ganguly said at an event.

Indeed, Rohit is redeeming himself at the age of 37, not just as a leader but also as a batter. He played two crucial knocks against Australia and England due to which India advanced to the finals comfortably.
