In a massive setback for Bangladesh, their in-form middle order batter Jaker Ali has been ruled out of the second against South Africa. Led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh will face South Africa in the decider of the ongoing home Test series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.
However, before the much-awaited encounter, the hosts have suffered a huge setback, with an unfortunate concussion injury sidelining Jaker Ali. Promising batter Mahidul Islam Ankon has earned his maiden national call-up as his replacement.
Jaker Ali's Concussion Injury: What Exactly Happened?
Bangladesh's physio Bayjedul Islam Khan revealed that Jaker Ali developed a concussion injury during a net session today.
"Jaker Ali suffered a concussion while batting in practice yesterday [Sunday] "He has a history of concussions and is still showing symptoms. Given his previous concussion record, recovery may take some time. Based on the clinical findings, he has been ruled out of the second Test," Islam Khan was quoted as saying by ESPN Cricinfo.
Jaker Ali's injury might hamper Bangladesh's chances in the second Test, as the batter showcased exemplary skills to hit a glorious fifty in the previous affair.
Why Did Mahidul Islam Ankon Receive A Call-Up?
Notably, Mahidul Islam Ankon is also a wicketkeeper and therefore he has been added to the Bangladesh Test squad as his like-for-like replacement. In 66 First-Class innings, the 25-year-old has amassed 1934 runs at an average of 30.69. He also represented Bangladesh's A-team in a match against Pakistan A in August earlier this year. However, his clinical hundred against Sylhet Division last week paved way for his Test call-up.
