Bangladesh Cricket is facing a difficult time as according to the recent reports skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has reportedly submitted his resignation as captain and has expressed his desire  to step down from leadership in all three formats following the ongoing series against South Africa.

The situation took an intriguing turn today (October 28), as Najmul Shanto, who was expected to address the press ahead of the second Test, skipped the pre-match conference in Chattogram. As he was not seen in the press conference it further fueled the rumors surrounding his future as captain.

Taijul Islam Attends Pre-Match Conference Ahead Of Second Test

Shanto’s notable absence raised eyebrows and intensified speculation, as journalists gathered at the venue were eager to hear from him in light of his rumored resignation. However, it is important to mention that, left-arm spinner Taijul Islam attended the press conference instead of him. His presence, while unexpected, seemed to confirm that the team was aware of the sensitivity of the situation.

Taijul Islam in the press conference answered several questions related to the match and very soon the  conversation soon shifted to Shanto’s possible departure as captain, leaving Taijul to address the matter with diplomacy.

He stated that neither the players, and he himself are included in the management decisions regarding captaincy or coaching. He tried to answer the question with diplomacy on Shanto’s resignation.

"I really don't have the answer to the question [Shanto leaving captaincy]. Me or other players are not involved in management or board meetings. We are not involved in deciding who will be the captain or coach," he said.

Taijul further added that if given the opportunity to take the captaincy he is all set to take the responsibility of the Test unit.

"As I have been playing for 10 years, I think I'm fully ready," Taijul concluded the press meet with a big smile.

With Bangladesh trailing 1-0 in the two-match series and facing a must-win scenario to level the series, for now, all eyes will be on the second Test in Chattogram, where the Tigers will need to set aside distractions and focus on their on-field performance.
