Promising Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan unleashed his batting talent in the domestic series Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2024-25 hours after he was picked for the T20I series against Australia and Zimbabwe. Batting for Peshawar, Farhan slammed 100 off 135 balls to guide his team to 546/10 in the first inning against Karachi Region Whites.
Pakistan cricket is undergoing a massive large-scale transformation after repetitive losses in the international circuit. A swift change in the Test squad led to a series victory against England. That turnaround encouraged PCB to bring more domestic players into the national setup.
Meanwhile, Sahibzada Farhan, the promising opener who has been grinding hard in the domestic circuit for a while, was picked for the T20I series against Australia and Zimbabwe.
Sahibzada Farhan impresses in domestic red ball tournament
Hours after the news came out, Farhan showcased a glimpse of his talent and skill set in the Quaid-e-Azam game between Peshawar and Karachi Region Whites.
Opening the innings, Farhan and his partner Waqar Ahmed stitched a 217-run partnership for Peshawar. While Farhan slammed 100 off 135 balls, including 14 boundaries and 2 sixes, Waqar racked up 140 off 191 balls to successfully lead the team to 546/10 total in the first innings.
Previously, Sahibzada Farhan captained the Shaheen’s team in multiple overseas tours but failed to receive his due in the senior team due to long going politics and instability.
Rizwan takes over white ball format captaincy
After weeks of speculation, Mohammad Rizwan was finally appointed as the captain of Pakistan’s ODI and T20I format, thus replacing Babar Azam who resigned a few months ago. Rizwan’s first assignment will be the Australia series followed by a Zimbabwe tour. He has been assigned a group of youngsters to groom who are coming off impressive domestic performances. The Australia tour will begin with the ODI series starting from November 4.
