A seam-bowling all-rounder is a rare asset in Indian cricket and Nitish Kumar Reddy brings those skillsets to the table. He displayed quality skills both with the bat and ball and is touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket.
He has now been selected in the Test squad as well for the all-important BGT in Australia. India have been looking for a seam-bowling all-rounder in the longest format since the time Hardik has moved away from the format, and a lot is expected from Nitish Reddy in the upcoming series. Now, in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, the all-rounder has touched upon his performance so far and his future plans along with the key advices he has received in recent times.
Nitish Credits Hardik Pandya For His Success In Bangladesh Series
He revealed Hardik Pandya's advice during the T20I series against Bangladesh. The all-rounder stated that Hardik Pandya always backed him and added that he stood at mid off and explained how to bowl on flat pitches in India. He also revealed that Hardik told him to bluff the batters with yorkers and slower ones and was constantly helping him.
"In matches, he was always backing me. When I was bowling, he came to mid-off and was explaining how to bowl on these kinds of wickets. How you need to bowl to a particular batter. He came and he told me to bowl wider, wide slow ones that really worked in that match. He told me to bluff batters with Yorkers and slower ones that really worked. He was giving me constant inputs and he believed in me as well. So everything went very well."
Nitish Reddy is currently playing for Andhra in Ranji Trophy and in the first game he played two decent knocks of 47 and 34. He bowled 13 overs with the ball as well and picked a wicket too. India would need a similar all-round performance in Australia from Reddy and it he does deliver, he can provide a great balance in pace-friendly conditions.
