Australia's chief selector George Bailey has revealed that dynamic keeper-batter Josh Inglis might be picked for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India on home soil. Led by Pat Cummins, Australia will face Rohit Sharma's India in a high-voltage five-match series, starting on November 22.
Josh Inglis is in scintillating form and chief selector George Bailey thinks he could be an asset for the home side in the Test series. Speaking to the media, the former captain lauded Inglis for his consistent performances in the ongoing Sheffield Shield competition.
"There's no doubt that the form is really fantastic at the moment. The ability to jump back into domestic cricket and dominate has been fantastic," Bailey was quoted as saying by PTI.
Inglis To Play As A Middle Order Batter In Tests: George Bailey
Despite Australia searching for Usman Khawaja's opening partner, Bailey revealed that Inglis wouldn't be an ideal fit at the top order, having played all his red-ball cricket in the middle order.
"I think in different series at different times of the year, he would firmly come into the mix purely as a batter the way he's been going," Bailey added.
"If the right opportunity opened up throughout the summer, in the spots where we think he's most capable of performing, I think he'd be firmly in that conversation as well. I've spoken to Josh on this. Not in the short term, I don't think that he's someone that we would be looking to place at the top of the order," he concluded.
Josh Inglis To Lead Australia In Pakistan T20Is?
The report also claims that Josh Inglis is a front-runner to lead Australia in the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan. The hosts have already announced their squad, resting several all-format players, including Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. So, considering his recent red-hot form, Inglis might captain the team in the high-voltage series.
