Prithvi Shaw has started off his journey as a Maharashtra player on a bright note. The batter hit 111 off 141 in the first innings of the match against Chhattisgarh, and it has raised hopes in the cricketing fraternity that the batter is now ready to start his comeback trail.
Shaw was dropped from the Ranji and Vijay Hazare team by Mumbai selectors in the last domestic season and went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction as well. Thus, it is a fresh start for the batter, and now, in an exclusive interview with NDTV, the batter has opened up on his mindset in this new phase.
Prithvi Shaw Confident Of Starting New Cricket Chapter
The right-handed batter stated that he doesn't mind starting from scratch and added that he has seen many ups and downs. Prithvi Shaw expressed confidence in his own abilities and hoped that he would score big in the upcoming domestic season.
"I don't mind coming from scratch again because I've seen many ups and downs in my life ... I'm kind of a very confident guy, confident in myself, my work ethics. I feel, I hope that this season will go really well for me as well as for my team," Prithvi Shaw told NDTV.
Shaw also explained that he just wants to do what he used to do in his U19 days, which helped him play for the senior Indian side. He added that he wants to work hard on different aspects of his preparation and is staying away from distractions like social media. He also called social media a bad place for him and added that he feels more at peace when he is not using it.
"I don't want to change anything. I just went back to basics, doing things that I used to do in Under-19 days, which got me to the Indian team, just doing all the stuff back again, you know. Practicing more, gym, running. It's small things, obviously, it's not that big because I've been doing these things since the age of 12 and 13. Just trying to be myself and not really trying to be on social media or anything and those kinds of distractions. Nowadays social media, it's quite bad. It's kind of peaceful when I'm not using it."
Shaw Not Worried About Lack Of Support
In the past couple of years, many big cricketers have criticised Prithvi Shaw for his work ethics and other things. The cricketer was once considered one of the most talented youngsters in the country, but does not enjoy the same support anymore, and was asked about how he looks at such things.
In reply, Shaw stated that it is not a big worry and he is not looking for anyone's sympathy. He added that he is happy with the support system of his family and friends who helped him during his tough time.
"I mean, it's fine. I mean, I don't want anyone's sympathy. It's okay. I've seen this before as well. I've got my family's support. And my friends who were there with me when I was not really well mentally as well. So, it's okay."
Thus, Prithvi Shaw has expressed satisfaction with the way he is now moving forward and looks pretty determined to make his comeback. The cricketer seems to be getting the backing from Maharashtra cricket, which he did not receive in the last domestic season from Mumbai, and would be hoping to make the most of it.
