In a ground-breaking development, the players' salary cap for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League 2025 might be increased to 130-140Cr. Notably, the salary cap for the 2022 mega auction was INR 90Cr, which might be increased significantly ahead of the next season.

According to The Times of India, several franchises have demanded an increase in the players' salary cap in one of their suggestions for the BCCI and IPL CEO Hemang Amin.

The present system doesn't allow franchises to increase the salaries of players between two mega auctions. Therefore, several franchises lose their valuable players due to budget and team combination issues.

Therefore, this move aims to reward the high-performing players while preventing the other franchises from poaching them at a higher salary.

"The current system doesn't allow for a player's salary to be increased by a franchise once he's bought in the IPL auction. Suppose he's bought for Rs 30 lakh and has an outstanding IPL, the franchise should have the option of offering him, say a Rs 3 crore fresh contract for the next year, rather than lose him to some other team," a franchise official was quoted as saying by TOI.

"The IPL needs to allow franchises to renegotiate the salary of a high-performing player. It will allow a team the option to retain its best players of the previous season without the worry that they would ask to be released or traded by other teams," he added.

As reported earlier, the franchises have also suggested four to six retentions, excluding eight RTMs, and conducting the mega auction every five years instead of three.
