In a shocking turn of events, the BCCI could tell franchises to retain only one player before the next mega auction

An ESPNCricinfo report revealed that the discussions took place between India’s apex cricket body and the franchise CEOs, and one of them disclosed why exactly it would be beneficial to everybody.

The suggestion from one of the IPL franchises was to retain one player, and that should be the captain of their respective teams.

The rest, if they want to bring them back, can be done with several Right To Match (RTM) cards. However, the number of RTM cards, which they suggested, was not revealed.

"A CEO at another franchise said teams could be allowed to retain one big player, possibly the captain, and the rest could be through RTMs. Such an approach would allow the market to determine a player's price, and also remove any monetary disappointment a player may have if they are last in the retention pecking order," an ESPNCricinfo report read.

Earlier, there were reports that the mega auction, which is set to happen next, could happen once in five years. However, all the decisions will be finalised real soon, as the BCCI has told all the IPL franchises to have a meeting regarding these matters next week.
