As per recent reports, Punjab Kings are set to part ways with head coach Trevor Bayliss. The former Australian cricketer’s two-year contract has concluded, and it appears unlikely to be renewed.

The franchise is now looking to appoint an Indian head coach, marking a strategic shift in their coaching approach.

Trevor Bayliss' departure seems imminent

The franchise, led by captain Shikhar Dhawan, is rumored to be considering several Indian candidates. Among the potential names is Sanjay Bangar, who previously served as the head coach of Punjab Kings and is currently the director of cricket development. Bangar's familiarity with the team and extensive coaching experience make him a strong contender.

A decision was expected during a board meeting scheduled for July 22, but the meeting did not take place, prompting the franchise to expand its search ahead of the mega-auction later this year. The ownership group is keen to finalize a coach who can lead the team effectively and help secure a stronger position in the upcoming season.

While Trevor Bayliss' departure seems imminent, speculations also suggest changes in other franchises. Gujarat Titans’ head coach Ashish Nehra might leave, and former India head coach Rahul Dravid is rumored to join Rajasthan Royals.

Bayliss has had mixed results in his T20 coaching career over the past five years, with stints at Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sydney Thunder, and Punjab Kings, as well as a successful tenure with the England team.

Despite his extensive experience, Punjab Kings’ decision-makers will conduct a review meeting to evaluate last year's performance before making a final decision.
