In a significant development, the IPL mega auction, which often takes place once every three years or four years ever since its introduction, could be held in a gap of five years from now on. Several IPL franchises discussed the matter with BCCI, as they look for many areas to ensure before deciding on the upcoming mega auction for the next edition.
ESPNCricinfo revealed the latest developments on Wednesday, as there have been lot of suggestions from everyone before the BCCI makes a decision on everything very soon.
IPL Franchises Pushing BCCI For Changes Before Next Mega Auction
"Conduct a mega auction only once in five years. Allow teams to retain between four and six players. Give each franchise eight right-to-match (RTM) options. These are some of the significant suggestions franchises have shared with IPL officials during feedback sessions on player retentions ahead of the 2025 auction," an ESPNCricinfo report read.
As explained by many, IPL franchises would get an opportunity to groom youngsters more seamlessly if the mega auction takes a longer break to happen. At the same time, it would allow them to take the uncapped players, particularly the Indians, to improve more in academics, where the franchises invest heavily, to take them to the international level.
Hence, it is safe to say that the BCCI would get more advantages if the mega auction happens once in five years instead of three.
The BCCI will decide on everything once they meet the IPL franchises next week. There, they will also finalise the auction date before the upcoming edition.
