In a strategic move, India might include Arshdeep Singh in their squad for the high-voltage Test series against Australia later this year. Notably, Arshdeep has been a vital cog in India's white-ball setup, especially T20Is.

The left-arm seamer oozed his class in the recently concluded T20 World Cup, helping India clinch their second-ever title in the format.

India interested to pick Arshdeep for Australia Tests

According to a report from The Times of India, the promising seamer might make his Test debut in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy Down Under.

Considering his improvement over the years, the BCCI is considering selecting Arshdeep for the much-awaited tour, during which India will face the Aussies in five Test matches.

Furthermore, a BCCI source has revealed that Arshdeep could lead India's bowling attack on Australian soil.

However, the speedster will be asked to participate in the Duleep Trophy to make his case stronger.

"Arshdeep has moved the ball impressively in white-ball matches for India. He could be asked to play a few domestic red-ball games, starting with the Duleep Trophy on September 5, to enhance his chances of selection for the Australia tour. There's a real chance that he could be India's trump card, along with (Jasprit) Bumrah, in Australia," the source told TOI.

"In fact, the selectors are keen on another left-arm pace option in the white-ball side at least, which is why Khaleel Ahmed toured Zimbabwe and has been picked for both the ODIs and T20Is in Sri Lanka," he added.

In 16 First-Class matches for Punjab, Arshdeep has scalped 49 wickets at an average of 31.97 and a strike rate of 59.6.

Although he has yet to cement his place in the longer formats, India might launch him as a surprise pick against the mighty Aussies.
