We are moving closer to the auction of IPL 2025, but the mystery around the nature of the auction and how teams can shape up in the event is still haunting cricket fans around the world.

The retention of players is a major bone of contention with some franchises looking for maximum retentions while others want less retentions to create a fresh team for the next season.

So, amid all this confusion, Boria Majumdar from RevSportz, a senior sports journalist in India has revealed that the IPL 2025 auction will have four retentions and 2 Right to Match (RTM) cards for every franchise.

The final decision from BCCI is likely to come in the first week of September, and if the report of 4 retentions and 2 RTMs is true, the franchises like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad who were keen to keep their core of 2024 season intact, will benefit from the move.

The franchises like Punjab Kings (PBKS), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC) had earlier demanded less retentions in the franchise meet on July 31 with BCCI. Along with the retention and RTM issue, a major point of discussion in the franchise meet was the Impact Player rule, which was introduced in IPL 2023.

There are also talks that BCCI might reintroduce a rule where a player will be considered uncapped if he has retired from international cricket for five or more years.
