Gujarat Titans (GT) trounced Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 35 runs in Match 59 of IPL 2024 on Friday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

With this win, GT have kept their slim playoff hopes alive, while the loss has complicated CSK's path to playoff qualification.

Opting to bat first after being invited, GT amassed a massive 231/3 in their 20 overs, powered by centuries from captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan.

In response, CSK's top three crumbled early. Despite a 109-run partnership between Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali that briefly kept hopes alive, once they were dismissed, CSK never truly looked in the chase and finished at 196/8.

Here’s the timeline of how GT vs CSK panned out in Ahmedabad-

GT vs CSK Highlights: Gill and Sudharsan Blaze Away

Asked to bat first by CSK, Gujarat Titans openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan launched an early assault, putting the bowlers to the sword right from the word go.

The two batters took no prisoners, tearing into the CSK attack with ruthless precision to rack up 58/0 in the powerplay.

Sudharsan was the chief aggressor while Gill was equally adept, as both reached their half-centuries within the first ten overs.

The carnage didn't stop there as the dynamic duo dominated, keeping the scoreboard ticking at a blistering pace.

Gill was the first to reach his century, followed shortly by Sudharsan, as the pair put on a record opening stand of 210.

They made the CSK bowlers look pedestrian, leaving the visitors searching for answers. Gill smashed a scintillating 104 off just 55 balls, while Sudharsan's blazing 103 came off 51 deliveries, propelling GT to a formidable 231/3 in their 20 overs.

GT vs CSK Highlights: CSK Fight Back at the Death

The defending champions clawed their way back into the contest in the death overs, conceding only 41 runs in the last five overs.

Simarjeet Singh, Shardul Thakur, and Tushar Deshpande turned the tide with their disciplined bowling, somewhat pulling things back to keep Gujarat Titans from crossing the 250-mark. Despite their efforts, CSK was left with a mountain to climb after GT's colossal total.

GT vs CSK Highlights: CSK Endures Horrendous Start as Rachin, Rahane, and Ruturaj Depart in a Flash

Chasing a mammoth 231, CSK lost the plot early as Gujarat Titans struck with precision. The chase started on the wrong foot with Rachin Ravindra being run out in the very first over.

Sandeep Warrier and Umesh Yadav capitalized on the early breakthrough, picking up a wicket apiece during the powerplay to dismiss Ajinkya Rahane and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Reduced to a dismal 10/3, CSK found themselves in hot water with the chase looking increasingly improbable.

GT vs CSK Highlights: Mitchell and Moeen Fight Back but Mohit, Rashid Slams the Door Shut

Despite the early setbacks, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali mounted a spirited fightback. Mitchell’s explosive 63 off 34 balls and Moeen's brisk 56 off 36 deliveries kept CSK in the hunt as they stitched together a 109-run partnership.

Mohit entered the fray in the 13th over and struck immediately to remove Mitchell before delivering a brilliant display of fast bowling, snaring Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube (21 off 13) in quick succession.

Ravindra Jadeja contributed 18 off 10 balls, but with MS Dhoni arriving late at the crease and 67 needed off the last 20 deliveries, the writing was on the wall.

Rashid Khan's tight spell at the death proved pivotal for Gujarat, removing Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner in the 18th over to all but seal CSK's fate. Dhoni managed a few lusty blows towards the end and entertained the crowd.

But it was too little, too late as CSK were restricted to 196/8 and they fell short by 35 runs.
